The film, altogether, is a combination of the original work from The Shining and ILM’s additional work. Spielberg would meet with the ILM animators for almost three hours three times a week.
For this reason, Spielberg worked with the animation company known as Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) to oversee the effects portrayed in the film.
Due to its nature and the year the film was set in, virtual effects had a big part to play in the film. According to director Steven Spielberg, Ready Player One was the most difficult movie he had to direct ever since directing Saving Private Ryan.
